Rwanda Safari Tours

This 5-day Rwanda gorilla and chimpanzee trekking safari is designed for travelers who want to experience the country’s most iconic primate encounters in a short time. The journey takes you through the ancient rainforest of Nyungwe Forest National Park for chimpanzee tracking and a thrilling canopy walk, and then continues to Volcanoes National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. Along the way, you will enjoy scenic drives through Rwanda’s rolling hills, interact with local communities, and experience the beauty of the “Land of a Thousand Hills.” The safari blends adventure, nature, and culture into one unforgettable experience.
Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be welcomed by your driver-guide and begin your journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park in southwestern Rwanda. The drive offers stunning views of tea plantations, rolling hills, and local villages. You may make short stops along the way to stretch, take photos, and experience local life. Arrive at your lodge later in the day for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay near the forest.
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before starting your chimpanzee trekking adventure. Walk through the dense tropical forest as you search for these lively primates while listening to their calls echo through the trees. Once you find them, enjoy observing their playful behavior in the wild.
In the afternoon, experience the famous Nyungwe canopy walk — a suspended bridge that gives you breathtaking views of the forest from above. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, depart Nyungwe and travel north toward Volcanoes National Park. The drive showcases Rwanda’s stunning countryside, with green hills and rural landscapes along the way. Arrive at your lodge near the park in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and preparing for the highlight of your safari — gorilla trekking.
Start the day early with a briefing at Volcanoes National Park headquarters. You will then head into the forest with experienced ranger guides to track a habituated gorilla family. The trek can vary in length depending on the gorillas’ location, but the moment you meet them is truly unforgettable. Spend up to one hour observing their interactions, feeding habits, and social behavior.
Later in the afternoon, visit a nearby community to learn about local traditions, culture, and daily life. Return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.
After breakfast, begin your journey back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for a short city drive or last-minute shopping before being dropped off at the airport for your departure flight. This marks the end of your memorable Rwanda primate safari.
