During this session, trekkers are divided into small groups of eight people, and each group is assigned a specific habituated gorilla family to track.

At around 8:00 AM, visitors set off into the forest accompanied by professional park guides and armed rangers for security. The trek involves hiking through thick vegetation, steep slopes, and sometimes muddy terrain, making a reasonable level of fitness important. The journey itself is part of the adventure, offering breathtaking scenery and opportunities to spot other wildlife species along the way.

What to Expect During the Trek

While trekking through destinations like Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, visitors may encounter various primates and mammals, including vervet monkeys, baboons, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. The highlight of the experience comes when the assigned gorilla family is finally located.

Trekkers are allowed to spend one unforgettable hour observing the gorillas up close. During this time, visitors learn about their social behaviour, feeding patterns, nurturing habits, and daily interactions within the family group. Gorilla Trekking Success Rate and Gorilla Families

Uganda offers a gorilla trekking success rate of over 95%, thanks to the country’s conservation efforts and the presence of nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
